Committees

European Union

The European Union (EU) was formed on the premise of improving economic relations between a few neighboring nations. It now encompasses 27 nations across Europe and has evolved into political as well as economic entity. The EU is unique because it has its own currency, flag, and anthem and sovereign nations. The EU sets out to resolve issues between its members by peaceful settlements to avoid military conflicts. The European Union must agree unanimously to pass a resolution so cooperation is essential to success in the committee. In the past, legislation passed by the EU has resulted in a stronger economy for most countries due to the removal of taxation from the movement of people, goods, services, and capital between member nations. It is important to note that the EU is strongly centered on economic affairs, agricultural concerns, and energy; most military concerns are left to other organizations such as NATO.

Legislation passed by the EU can be found here.
Other documentation by National Parliaments in the EU can be found here.

The European Union is an Advanced Committee.

Co-Director

Stuart Warren
Stuart is thrilled to be returning to ConnectMUN this year as co-director of the European Union with Zach Hauser. He has a strong interest in public speaking and international affairs, and also enjoys playing drums and writing music during his spare time. An avid MUN participant, Stuart has extensive experience attending conferences, both as a delegate and staff, and looks forward to using that experience this year to make the EU the best committee ever.

Co-Director

Zach Hauser
Zach attends St. George's School, with which he has attended far too many MUN conferences over the past five years. When he's not preparing for one MUN or another (and he usually is, unfortunately), you might find him cycling around Vancouver, being pretentious with his modicum of Latin, or conquering the world in Civilization IV. Zach is excited to be co-directing the European Union at ConnectMUN, and looks forward to meeting you all at the conference.

Chair

Yoo Ra Kang
Yoo Ra Kang has been actively involved in Model United Nations since the ninth grade. She attended conferences both internationally and locally and has enjoyed every moment of her MUN experience. Other than being a part of this exciting circle, she has other interests. On a rainy day, she could cuddle up in her couch all day watching movies. She plays basketball and also has a passion in swimming/lifeguarding. Being the founder and current head delegate of the MUN delegation from Pinetree Secondary School, she hopes that her experiences help her guide the committee to have fun-filled, exciting, and stimulating discussions throughout the conference.
